INFANT AND TODDLER PROGRAM (ages 6 mo. - 2.5 yr.)

This program familiarizes young children, from ages 6 months to about 3 years, to the water and prepares them to learn to swim. The child learns about a new environment, while playing games and singing. Our Infant and Toddler Aquatics Program provides parents with safety information and teaches techniques to help orient their children to the water. Classes are designed so the child has fun while being introduced to simple movements and terms that pertain to basic aquatic skills, as well as learning independence in the water.

Pollywog –This class is for children 6-24 months. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or another trusted adult. The objective of this swim level is to introduce children to the water for the first time. We provide a safe and fun environment for infants and toddlers to get adjusted to the water by playing games, singing songs, and practicing basic swim skills. Instructors will guide parents in teaching their children in the water, including how to appropriately support and hold their child in the water and how to prepare and encourage their child to participate fully and try the skills. Each child will progress individually according to his or her age and level of comfort in the water. Maximum class size is 8 students with parents.

Tadpole –This program is designed for the experienced toddler who is comfortable in the water without being accompanied by an adult (yes moms and dads, you are off the hook!). Children entering this class are already showing independence in the water and will jump in, without assistance and are comfortable working directly with an instructor. New aquatic skills will be introduced including floats, rolling on their back, independent safety jumps, beginner strokes and much more! This class is designed to prepare children for our “Learn to Swim” program. These special swimmers are ready to work on advanced toddler skills in a small class of 4, typically of ages 1-1/2 to 3 years.
